It’s hot, y’all. It’s like 100 degrees. Ok, it’s only in the 90s, but still. It’s the South. Down here, we like to say, “It’s so humid you could cut it with a knife.” (It sounds better if you say it with a twang.)
So, what should we do when it’s so hot? Well, the only sensible thing to do is go to the lake but my favorite lake is a little far from here. It’s not a trip you can make on a week night. Plus, maybe I’m a weenie, but I like my bed and I’m not in the mood to pack up three kids for a weekend trip.
Ok, plan #2…get a pool.
What kind of pool should we get? Well, we live on a rocky hill and an in-ground pool would probably cost a fortune to dig. We should definitely go with an above ground model.
I only want the very best for my kids, naturally. I want them to have a top-of-the-line pool. Something they can enjoy for hours at a time. After all, kids need to get wet, splash, have a great time and pour water over their sister’s head.
My husband shopped around for hours at a pool and spa dealer a few minutes at Walmart and found her. There she was, stacked up outside the store with the other pools. She was beautiful and gleaming in the sunshine.
It was love at first sight.
We debated and decided to go with the 3 foot model. (Some of you are thinking, “They got a pool that’s three feet deep? What losers.”) Au contraire. It’s 3 feet ACROSS. Yes, you read that right. And it’s roughly 7 inches deep. Like I said, only the best for our kids.
We brought that beauty home and plopped her down on the FRONT porch. We rushed in the house, hurried to get the kids changed into their swim clothes, and stuck the water hose in the pool. It was only 9 minutes till show time.
We spent three whole hours playing in that pool the first day. The kids sat in it while The Man and I sat on either side in lawn chairs with our feet in. Just to complete the picture for you…we also had a stand fan aimed at us because (like I said) it’s hot.
Oh, I should also mention the (non-alcoholic) Pina Coladas and Caribbean music on Pandora. When the neighbors drove by, we just waved. We call it Riviera Time and it transports us to somewhere in Mexico.
Adios, y’all!
Lindsey
