Vinegar - All Purpose Cleaner that will save you money

Biodegradable: adjective meaning capable of being decomposed by bacteria or other living organisms

Since vinegar is biodegradable, that’s great news for those of us who don’t want to kill the good bacteria in our septic tanks. It’s also great news for those of us who love our planet.

What is vinegar?

“Vinegar is a solution of acetic acid and water. Acetic acid is produced by fermenting fruit, grain, or vegetables; depending on what is being fermented, vinegar can be made to have a variety of flavors. But vinegar is more than a food. White vinegar, a clear vinegar made from grain, is helpful for tasks like cleaning coffee makers, brightening coffee and tea cups, and eliminating odors. “

How to use vinegar on your furniture

MOST furniture these days is not made of solid wood. A lot of the time, it just has a veneer on top that looks like wood so you don’t need actual wood polish that is meant to nourish the furniture. So, mix equal parts vinegar and water in a spray bottle and use it to dust non-wood furniture.

However, if you have solid wood furniture, you can still make a nourishing furniture polish using vinegar. Here’s a recipe from one of my favorite books (Household Hints):

For old fashioned furniture polish, combine one tablespoon vinegar, two tablespoons virgin olive oil, and four cups water. Put in a spray bottle (recycled hair spray bottle, etc.) Spray on furniture and wipe dry. It gives a nice shine and removes build-up of commercial polishes.

Other uses for vinegar

Shine your stainless steel kitchen sink with a cloth dampened with vinegar.

A cloth dampened with vinegar will remove rust stains caused by leaky faucets.

White vinegar works well as a scale remover for electric kettles and steam irons.

For a fast shine to your glass shower doors, wipe them with a sponge containing white vinegar. It cuts soap film quickly.

Clean bathroom tiles with vinegar which has been poured into a spray bottle.

Shine chrome in the bathroom with a cloth dampened with vinegar. Let dry, then polish with a soft cloth.

Drains and toilet bowls can be deodorized and sanitized with vinegar

Add vinegar to your humidifier to keep the water fresh.

Use vinegar to remove perspiration, grass and slight scorch stains from clothing.

Vinegar will destroy grass in sidewalk and driveway cracks.

Dab vinegar on mosquito bites to relieve itching.

One part vinegar and three parts water makes an excellent window cleaner.

So, here’s the point:

Vinegar can replace almost all your cleaning supplies in your house and save you money!
